The Dassault Mirage III is a point of reference for French aircraft production. Produced from the early 1960s to equip the units of the Arme de l’Air, it immediately proved to be extremely effective. It soon became a commercial success and was exported to numerous countries, participating in several conflicts during the 1970s and 1980s. Characterized by its unmistakable delta wing, it was able, thanks to its Snecma Atar engine with afterburner, to exceed the speed of Mach 2. After the Mirage IIIC, intended for the role of interceptor fighter, the multirole and ground attack version was developed. Thus was born the Mirage IIIE characterized, from an aerodynamic layout point of view, by a lengthening of the fuselage to accommodate improved avionics.
