The Fairchild Republic A-10 Thunderbolt II was developed during the seventies with the specific aim of providing the USAF with a powerful aircraft capable of carrying out ground attack missions and being used effectively as an anti-tank weapon . Heavily armored and equipped with two General Electric turbofan engines, its entirely original aerodynamic structure was developed around the 30 mm cannon. GAU-8/A Avenger Gatling, one of the most powerful weapons ever used on board an aircraft. The eleven pylons allow the use of an impressive offensive load. The A-10 first flew operational missions during the Gulf War in 1991 and demonstrated its effectiveness against armored targets by destroying over 900 enemy tanks.
