While retaining the familiar shape of the Hercules, which has been seen in the skies around the world for many decades, the C-130J is a vastly redesigned machine.The most visible change is given by the Rolls-Royce (Allison) AE2100D3 engines of 4,700 horsepower each, with six-blade propellers in composite material which guarantee extremely silent operation and reduce fuel consumption.Among the performances, it is the rate of climb and the radius of action that have benefited most from the new engines.But another no less important change concerns the avionics.The C-130J is progressively assuming the role of standard medium transport of many NATO countries, including Italy.
